The Bioprocess Development (BPD) lab, led by Dr. Ashish A Prabhu, is dedicated to the development of biorefineries with a strong focus on sustainable bioprocessing, metabolic engineering, and industrial fermentation for the production of value-added biochemicals, enzymes, and biomaterials. A significant part of the research conducted revolves around the bioconversion of various lignocellulosic and agro-industrial waste materials into commercially valuable products, contributing to a circular bioeconomy and sustainable resource utilization.
Our lab focuses on the metabolic engineering of microbes, pathway manipulation of cell factories, optimization of process parameters at the bioreactor level, and developing mathematical models. Through interdisciplinary approaches spanning synthetic biology, systems biology, and fermentation engineering, this lab is committed to developing next-generation microbial platforms for high-value biochemical production while contributing to a resilient and sustainable bioeconomy.
