Biosketch
Dr. Ashish Prabhu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the National Institute of Technology Warangal, India, where he has been serving since 2020.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Visvesvaraya Technological University and his Master’s degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Manipal Institute of Technology, India. During his master’s program, he worked as a Project Assistant at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, India, in 2012.
He obtained his PhD in Biochemical Engineering in 2018 from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. His doctoral research focused on engineering the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris for the production of human interferon-gamma. Subsequently, he worked on the genetic engineering of other Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) organisms, including Bacillus species, K. lactis, and Escherichia coli, for the production of therapeutic proteins and enzymes.
Following his PhD, he joined the Tata Institute of Genetics and Society in Bangalore, India, as a Research Associate in 2018, where he worked on the production of malarial antigens and single-chain antibodies in E. coli and Insect cell lines. Later in 2019, he joined as a Research Fellow in Metabolic Engineering, Centre for Climate and Environmental Protection at Cranfield University, United Kingdom, where he worked on the engineering of oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica for the production of value-added products such as xylitol and succinic acid using renewable carbon sources such as sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate, food waste, and crude glycerol.

Shree Aadya Durga Bio-Solutions Private Limited is an early-stage biotechnology and life sciences startup founded by Dr. Ashish Prabhu (Director) and Mrs. Sangeetha Bhandary (Director) on July 3rd, 2024, based locally in Hanamkonda (Warangal), Telangana. Incubated at the NITWIEF (National Institute of Technology Warangal Innovation & Entrepreneurship Foundation), the company focuses on advancing agricultural residue management, biofertilizers, and clean, green energy technologies.

Coordinated the Faculty Development Course on “MycoInnovation: Transforming Health, Energy and Environment through Fungal Biotechnology”, organized by the Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology Warangal in association with the Association of Fungal Biologists from 4–8 May 2026, and delivered an invited lecture titled “From Waste to Wealth: Yeast-based Production of Biochemicals.”

Coordinated the two week online refresher course on “Green Horizons: Integrating Environmental, Industrial Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Future”, organized by the Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology Warangal in association with the Association of Fungal Biologists from 19-31 January 2026, and delivered an invited lecture titled “From Waste to Wealth: Microbial Production of Lactic and Succinic Acids.”
